Generate an llms.txt, eyes open.

llms.txt is a proposed convention: a small markdown file at your site root listing your most important pages for AI crawlers. Before you spend time on it, know this: no major AI system consumes llms.txt as of mid-2026, and Google's John Mueller compared it to the old keywords meta tag. It costs nothing and cannot hurt, so this tool builds one in your browser. Then go publish the pages that actually get you cited.

FAQ

Questions

What is llms.txt?
A proposal from September 2024 for a markdown file at /llms.txt that gives large language models a curated index of a site's most important pages, in the way robots.txt guides crawlers and sitemap.xml lists URLs. It is a convention, not a standard, and adoption by the AI companies has not followed.
Does any AI engine actually read llms.txt?
Not that anyone has shown. Google's John Mueller said in June 2025 that no AI system currently uses it and compared it to the keywords meta tag; Gary Illyes said Google does not support it and has no plans to. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity have not documented support either. Publish one if you like, but do not expect it to move your AI visibility.
What should I do instead?
Make sure AI crawlers can read your site (our crawler check tests that), publish plain-text pages that answer the exact questions customers ask, complete your Google Business Profile and Yelp listings, and measure how often AI names you. The full loop is at /get-recommended-by-chatgpt.
